Martina Bertoni and Stefan Schneider-Monti share a fascination for working with a deliberately restricted vocabulary of electronic instruments. Both tracks on Holding on and letting go were recorded with only two hardware synthesisers. The music unfolds with quiet precision while maintaining an exploratory edge as both artists find ways to constantly challenge the flow.

One of the effects of these slowly metamorphosing tracks is the degree to which the tiniest change in the music generates enormous sensations of uncertainity and transformation. Rather than performing as an ensemble, the conversational approach of Martina Bertoni & Stefan Schneider Monti effortlessly coalesce into a multi layered interdependency.

Holding on and letting go largely eschews traditional composition techniques in favour to keep the music moving in order to create spaces for unpredictable encounter and unlimited negotiation. The changeability is where the freedom lies.

Martina Bertoni is a Berlin based composer and experimental cellist whose work is focused on embodied sound practices and post-instrumental identities. Her most recent solo album „Electroacoustic works for Halldorophone“ was released last year on Karlrecords.

Stefan Schneider Monti is best known as a founding member of Kreidler (1994-99) and to rococo rot (1995-2015) Today he combines the work on his experimental label imprint TAL with collaborations with Hans Joachim Roedelius (Cluster), Susanna Gartmayer, Garth Erasmus, film maker Nicholas Humbert („Step across the border“) and fine art luminary Katharina Grosse amongst others.
